The New Centrino2 Notebooks from ASUS

In August, ASUS is launching 7 new notebooks based on Intel’s new Centrino2 mobile platform. These include two gaming models (the newly designed the G50V), two multimedia models (the M50Vm and the M70Vm), two small form factor models (the U6V and the F6V) and the F8Va. These notebooks incorporate the very latest technology from Intel and ASUS to bring improved performance, heat dissipation, and WiFi capability to your customers.

What is Centrino2
Intel’s new Centrino2 platform is the biggest change in mobile processing that the company has introduced since the original launch of Intel’s Centrino processor technology in 2003. Centrino2 is a mobile platform consisting of a new processor, a new chipset, and new WiFi. Upgrades in each of these areas bring tangible benefits to your customers that they will love:
- Processor: Centrino2 notebooks use Intel’s 45nm Core2 Duo (Penryn) processors.
- Chipset: The new mobile Intel 45 Express chipset supports DX10 and HD playback.
- Wireless: The new notebooks all support Intel 802.11n WiFi for data transfer rates of up to 450mbps (when coupled with a 450mbps access point).

What are the Benefits?
The main benefits of the Centrino2 platform are improved performance and better energy efficiency. Wifi and security are also improved.

Performance: Intel claims performance gains of up to 50% for most tasks and 90% for the toughest computing tasks. Centrino2 processors support a faster FSB (up to 1066 MHz), higher processor clock speeds, and new micro architecture. It also includes faster DDR2 (800 MHz), as well as DDR3 support (up to 1066 MHz).

Energy Efficiency: 45nm processors use less power and have a better battery life. They also produce less heat, enabling even better notebook designs in the future.
